Baby Reindeer’s Nava Mau revealed at the 2024 Emmys that there’s a certain celebrity who the Netflix drama.
“I heard Ariana Grande is a huge fan,” Nava revealed to E! News’ Keltie Knight backstage at the Peacock Theater Sept 15. “I am a huge fan of hers and that meant a lot to me.”
And the Wicked star isn’t the only fan of the limited series, which is based on creator and star Richard Gadd’s experience with a real-life stalker. Case in point? The show earned an impressive six wins throughout the evening, including Outstanding Lead Actor and Supporting Actress in a Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series, Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series and Outstanding Writing for an Anthology Series or Movie at the Sept. 15 award show.
It was a moment Richard could only have dreamt up in his wildest daydreams.
“I was emotional,” he told Keltie. “When you write a kind of obscure, U.K. show about this kind of stuff you never think you’re gonna stand on the stage of the Emmys I can tell you that. Then of course when you get nominated, you never think you’re gonna win.”
“It has been crazy and I am so proud of everybody,” he continued. “And it's not just about me, but the amazing cast and all of the amazing crew and everyone. I am delighted and overwhelmed and what could I say? It is the greatest night of my life.”
And while Nava didn’t win for Outstanding Supporting Actress—the honor having gone to her costar Jessica Gunning—she had already felt like a winner just being there as the first transgender actress to be nominated in the category.
“I think that what we've been fighting for as a community is to be able to tell stories that come from the heart and that are based from a human foundation,” Nava told Live from E! host Laverne Cox, during an emotional interview on the red carpet. “Because that's who we are as trans people, we are humans first and foremost.”
The 32-year-old continued, “That’s what I think is the best thing to celebrate about Baby Reindeer, is that, yes, it's an LGBT show, it's a show that has a trans character on it, and it's also a really good show. And it's something I'm very proud of.”
