Sarah Hyland is busy. Very busy. Between starring in Little Shop of Horrors on Broadway, juggling marriage with Bachelor in Paradise’s Wells Adams, being a dog mom, and constantly traveling between LA and New York, the Modern Family alum has a lot going on. But, this kind of schedule isn’t new for Hyland, she just remarks that the difference between the early aughts and now is, “I’m just tired” and back then “I had more energy.”
This moment of reflection comes at the start of Sarah’s new exciting partnership with Kohl’s, the place where she was a Candie’s girl and the brand’s Creative Director almost a decade ago. Hyland describes that time in her 20s as “fun, glitzy, glamorous, and very flirty.” But now, she brings a sophisticated taste to the table, and lots of chic, creamy neutrals, “I’m a big neutral person,” she admits.
To kick off this new partnership with Kohl’s (a store that Hyland describes as “a one-shop-stop for quality items”), we sat with Sarah to discuss her favorite beauty products from Sephora at Kohl’s, plus pet essentials for her dog Boo, travel must-haves, what she brings as a gift to someone's home, and her go-to items for couch rotting – “More couch rot than bed rot,” Hyland adds, “because things in my life have changed so much since I was a Candie’s girl.”
So, keep on scrolling to read more about Sarah’s favorite aesthetic (hint: Coastal Grandma) and why she’s so excited to be partnering with Kohl’s again for all the products that make her busy life a lot easier.
"It’s just amazing to be able to partner with Kohl’s," Hyland reports. With her busy lifestyle, she loves to get the "things to help make it easier for me."
"I love Rare Beauty products," Hyland reports, like the "Soft Pinch Liquid Blush." The liquid blush comes in 13 colorways, but Sarah says, "there’s a really beautiful corally pink tone that I use all the time." Just place a dot or two on each cheek and gently pat for 12 hours of wear.
"The Summer Fridays lip butter balm is a go-to, must-have for me." The balm comes in 7 colorways, but keep an eye on the tan, brownish Iced Coffee colorway. "I love that one. Neutrals, I’m a big neutral person," Sarah adds.
When it comes to a versatile beauty product, Sarah raves, "I love One/Size Patrick Starrr’s line, his matte setting spray is wonderful. I love that setting spray."
"The Brazilian Crush fragrance mist is really amazing. Super easy on the go, keeps you fresh."
"I love SuperGoop’s Glowscreen, it makes it really easy to be able to do skin care and protect your skin. I love that one."
"I love the adidas 3.0 Court shoes so so much. I used to wear adidas a lot in middle school and high school so I’m loving that they’re coming back in style. I am wearing some right now."
"I love athletic wear like Nike. Foldover leggings, those are really really great."
"I want to start getting into my kind of Coastal Grandma," Sarah reports. "You know those women that are walking on the beach with a puffer vest? With your dog running with the stick in front of you. And a glass of wine in your hand. What a life."
"Nike Women’s Sportswear Classic Puffer. I’m a big fan of the puffer."
"I’m a big caffeine coffee person. I need my coffee in the morning no matter what." Sarah swears by the Cuisinart Coffee Center Barista Bar -- use code SHOPPING to save 20%.
"Victrola Journey+, I’m a big record player girl so I love that you can play Bluetooth, your music from your phone, as well as play records. That is a must-have home item for me. They’re so cute."
"I’m a person that unpacks when I get into a hotel room," Sarah admits. So packing cubes make it "very easy to pack and unpack.
Hyland loves how helpful these Heys' packing cubes are. "It just makes everything so organized. And I like it organized. It’s easy to unpack. You have your intimates in one cube, you have your t-shirts in another, and it just makes it so easy."
"Definitely Draper James dog toys."
"Boo loves a dog bed. She sleeps in bed with us but she will actually start off the night on her dog bed and then in the middle of the night come up onto the bed." So Sarah's a fan of the SportPet bed. "She just loves it so much. It’s a place where she can feel safe and have her own space. She knows that that’s hers."
"When it comes to the fall, for Thanksgiving or even Christmas, I like to, if we have people over, I like to accessorize Boo to our decor. So the UGG Mimi Pet Sweater Hoodie for Boo would be really cute for a little Thanksgiving pumpkin carving moment. I love a cardigan on a dog."
"Flowers are always wonderful to go to someone’s house." Sarah adds that if you bring a vase with the flowers, "it’s really nice to be able to just be like, 'here you go, you don’t have to mess with this. You don’t now have to fill up a vase with water.'"
"Sonoma Goods has really amazing products." Sarah loves the Neutral Speckled Vase, "a gorgeous piece so that’s a really nice – cause sometimes you bring over flowers or someone will bring over flowers and I don’t have a vase to put it in."
"I couch rot. I’m a big couch rotter. More couch rot than bed rot." When she comes home, she puts on a red light mask and "I just freeze. I go into a functional freeze state. I eat pizza and I binge-watch shows that I’ve already watched because it’s safe and comforting and I know it."
As Sarah mentioned, she loves putting on a red light mask when "you’re just like relaxing before bed. It’s so good for your skin. Have the red light on it."
